Hello MG Families,

The below reminder was sent to students last week. There is no cost to students who bring in a damaged device through the end of this school year. Students will be responsible for damages starting in the Fall due to warranty expiration. Our goal is to start the school year with a repaired and fully functional fleet of MG-owned devices.

Many thanks for your partnership and understanding. We hope the end of the school year is wonderful for all.

Wishing you well,
Elea Kaatz
Director of Academic Technology

Summer's almost here! Here are some important reminders about your MGRS Chromebooks.

Important before June 13th: If your Chromebook has any sort of damage, defects, missing keys, or broken parts please see Mrs. Barrett ASAP in the library to get a replacement. We want to go into the fall with a fully functional Chromebook fleet, to the best of our ability.

  • To keep your Chromebook running smoothly all summer long, it's important to turn it on and let it update periodically. This ensures you have the latest bug fixes, security patches, and features for the upcoming school year. Keeping your Chromebook updated is crucial for optimal performance. It only takes a few minutes!

  • Here's how to manually check for updates:

  1. Go to Settings.

  2. Click on About Chrome OS.

  3. Select Check for updates.

  • It's important to keep them free of stickers and decals. These can damage the finish and leave behind a sticky residue. If you've already added any decorations, it's a good idea to remove them now. Removing any leftover adhesive is easy. Simply dab a tiny amount of isopropyl alcohol on a clean rag and gently wipe the area. Be careful not to use too much alcohol, as it can damage the Chromebook's surface.

  • Remember, these Chromebooks belong to the school. Please take good care of them. Throughout the summer, make sure to store your Chromebook in a safe and secure location. Damages incurred over the break may result in you being responsible for repair or replacement costs. A new Chromebook can cost around $400. We definitely wouldn't want any surprises come September!

  • If you leave Mount Greylock, you will have to turn in your Chromebook as the devices are owned by the district.

  • If your device does become damaged over the summer, please email helpdesk@mgrhs.org to arrange for a replacement so you are ready when school starts again in the fall.

By following these tips, you can ensure your Chromebook is ready to tackle the new school year when you return in the fall.

Have a fantastic summer!

Mrs. Kaatz, Mrs. Barrett, and Mr. Wnuk
